It is a wedding tradition, but why do we do it? The tossing of the bride's bouquet is like having a glass of champagne that night- it is not necessary but certainly makes the evening more fun!

In the old days, it was considered lucky to touch the bride, and even luckier if you were able to tear off a piece of her dress or veil. Imagine someone ripping off a piece of your Monique Lhuillier couture gown - can you say friendship OVER?! The tradition of grabbing fragments of the bride's clothing for luck dates back to 14th century France. In order to prevent single women from invading the bride's personal space, and potentially leaving her half-dressed, the bouquet toss was introduced as a more civilized alternative. Congratulations to Dr. Lydia Contreras and Dr. Lealon Martin who were on May 15, 2010 in St. Helena Islands, South Carolina. This was a fun filled activity packed destination wedding for the couple and their guest. The first day (Friday) started with golf for the gentlemen, and a scenic boat cruise for the ladies, all followed with a luncheon. Friday evening was a Welcome Dinner that allowed both familes and friends to mesh as one. On Saturday their wedding ceremony was followed by an outside reception on the beautiful grounds of the historic Penn Center in Saint Helena Island, and later that evening a festive beach party on Fripp Island, on Sunday everything came to a relaxing end with a brunch with new families and friends combined as one.

Growing in popularity is the Unity Sand Ceremony. Not only does this create a decorative result, it is also much more practical in an outdoor setting where candles can be affected by the natural elements. With the Unity Sand Ceremony, select three decorative glass vases and place one color of sand into one vase and a second color into another vase. This is designed to represent the Bride and Groom. At the appropriate point in the service the Groom pours a portion of his sand into the third vase. The Bride then pours a portion of her sand in on top of the Groom’s in the third vase. To conclude the Bride and the Groom jointly pour the remaining sand in each of their respective vases into the central vase. Name Tags

I think it is a good idea to have name tags for everyone in your wedding party, and family for day of rehearsal. I have done so many rehearsals that have a large wedding party, and the only name I know is bridesmaid #1 or bridesmaid #6 and that is not a good thing. It is nothing personal, and I mean no harm but it's hard for me and others to remember about 25 people name in less than an hour whom I have never met in my life (smile) Sometimes the family is just meeting for the first time, and it is good to know grooms grandma, from brides grandma and the same with your bridal party, they have you in common as a mutual friend, but don't know each other. The name tags come in like a pack of adhesive labels, that you can write everyone's name, nick name, or if you want to give them a character name for that evening. The best thing, it's cost effective!!

Who Should Walk you Down the Aisle?

Of course by old traditions we know that the father of the bride will walk her down the aisle, but so many traditions have change far. It is a natural tradition for a father to provide and take care of his family, but yet there are so many that are not. When making the selection of who will hold this position, it should not be based on what is politically correct, but what is correct in your heart.

If you have a father who has not provided, or made contact with you until your adulthood or the year of your wedding, and neither one of you know anything about the other, but yet you have a step-father who has been your sole provider, then this honor should go to your step-father. If both fathers have equally shared the responsibility of your upbringing then let them both walk you down the aisle, or one can walk you half, and the other walk you to the altar.

There are cases that there is no father present, and then this honor should go to the single mother who has been your sole provider. In Jewish tradition both parents walk the bride down the aisle, which is now becoming a popular tradition across the board. The only rule about this is do what’s in your heart, I have experienced the bride being escorted by her brother, uncle, grandfather, mother, or her son and the list can go on and on.

How to be a Good Wedding Guest

There is an etiquette associated with being a wedding guest. If you are attending a wedding in the near future, here are some tips and etiquette rules so you can be the kind of wedding guest that couples appreciate and love.

When invitations to weddings arrive in the mail, do you find yourself glancing telling yourself you will RSVP later when you have more time? If you want to be a fantastic wedding guest, check your schedule as soon as you get your invitation and send it back immediately. Many couples rely solely on the RSVPs to get a head count for catering and seating so always send in the RSVP. If a situation arises where you will no longer be able to attend, call so they can take you off the final headcount and save money.

Be sure to dress appropriately for the wedding. Wearing t-shirts, jeans,sweat pants, hoodies or sneakers is never acceptable and you may say "who would wear that" well I have seen it, and just because your son is 16 it is not acceptable for him to come dress in that manner also. If you are attending a religious ceremony that is different from your own, you may want to research what is deemed appropriate. For example, at a Muslim wedding, you would probably not want to wear a short skirt and sleeveless shirt, out of respect for the Muslim culture.

Never bring uninvited guests. Someone's wedding is not a hang out event, or a community workshop. If the invitation says your name only, that means only you are invited. If the invitation states that you and one guest are invited, bring only one guest. Across the universe one plus one equals two not four and five! Do not call up the bride and groom and ask if you can bring an extra guest with you. If the invitation also includes your children, then if they start to get noisy or begin crying in the middle of the ceremony, immediately take them outside.

Be sure to get to the wedding on time. There is nothing more distracting than listening to the bride and groom reciting their vows and having somebody walk in during the middle of this interchange and you clickety-clack all the way down the aisle to find a seat. If you are unable to get to the wedding on time, then proceed to the reception site.

When taking pictures during the ceremony and reception, always be mindful of the professional photographer that is on hand taking pictures for the couple. Sure, you want to get great shots, but the couple is paying for the photographer to be there, so stay out of the way.

Stay at the reception until the very end. I have attended way too many reception where more than half of the guests leave after eating, leaving the room half empty. Keep in mind how you would feel if half of your friends or relatives left right after they ate. Have fun and be available to send the couple off at the end of the night!

Sure, there may be an open bar, but that is not an open invitation to get drunk. Drink in moderation so you can avoid embarrassing yourself and the couple, and so you can get home safely afterwards.

Save - the - Date

What is a Save-the-Date? A Save-the-Date notice is an item stating the date of a wedding or any other formal event. It typically states the date when a couple plans to marry, or when a special event will occur. I highly reccomend using them if your eent is going to take place on a holiday, weekday, or will be a grand destination to those you are inviting.A destination wedding do not always mean that your wedding is out of the country, on a beautiful island. A destination wedding can be that for your guest who may live in New York but your wedding is in California, thetn hey would need as much notice to prepare if it was on an island.

When do you send them? you can send them out as early as 12 months in advance especially if it is a destination wedding, but usually 6 to 8 months befor e the wedding is fine.

Do I send one to everybody? No, you are not required to send a Save the Date to everyone on your guest list. Many brides cut costs here by sending Save the Dates only to those guests who will be traveling or who will likely need to make arrangements far in advance.

Do not send a Save the Date to anyone who will not be receiving a wedding invitation.
I am a big fan of the magnet Save-the-Date, so that way they are not lost in a cluttered draw, they usually will be on the person fridge, and you can laways add magnets to the Save-the-Date yourself.

Getting married on a Saturday is the most popular day all over the world, for so many reasons, one it gives your guest time to come in town that Friday, and get some rest and leave out on that Sunday and make it to work on Monday morning. With that date being so popular it is not hard for a venue to fill that date. If you still feel strong about getting married on a weekend, then I reccomend a Friday or Sunday wedding, which can save you a lot of money, and out of those two days, a Sunday wedding can save you much more. For example if there is a venue that charges $2,100 to rent on a Saturday but $1,000 on a Friday and $700.00 on a Sunday. WOW what a differene a day can make. If your wedding is filled with close family and friends, and you send them a Save-the-Date so that they can prepare in advance, I say why not aim for a Friday or Sunday. Also keep in mind that a lot of the wedding vendors will offer you a discount as well, but be advised you have to ask for these discounts, they are not going to volunter.

Preserving your Wedding Gown

Every bride should protect her investment by having her wedding gown professionally cleaned and stored. An expert dry cleaner or gown preservationist can make certain that your heirloom dress is protected from soil and age so it looks as new in 20 years as it did the day you wore it.

1.Find a dry cleaner that advertises expert cleaning of wedding gowns. Ask the cleaner if he/she uses different solvents on gowns than on regular clothing.

2.Ask if you can see the dress before it is packed. That way, you can see for yourself if all visible stains have been removed prior to storage.

3.Wedding gowns should be stuffed with clean, acid free tissue. Acid-free tissue placed between the folds of the dress and stuffed in the bodice will prevent permanent wrinkles and folds as well as help stabilize the environment of the box. .Don't put the gown in a hot attic or a cold basement. Extreme temperature changes can also damage your gown.

4.The cost of professionally cleaning and storing your dress can range from $75 - $600, depending on its size, fabric and detailing..

5.To cut down on cost, you can pack away your gown yourself, but only after it has been professionally dry-cleaned. To do this, you will need a large box, tissue paper, and a cotton liner. Cedar chests can also be used instead of a box. Carefully arrange the bodice and skirt to avoid wrinkling, and crumple tissue paper in major folds to prevent hard creasing. Never use plastic or brown boxes. They contain materials that are harmful to the fabric.

There are so many beautiful colors out there that have been fused and blended together to create a brand new color, like for example a new color called Lemon Sprinkle, in which the first thing you think is "yellow" but it has a yellow tone, but yet have like a pink hue, so it's like really hard to figure out which is which, then a color called Coral of Craze which is hints of orange, pinks, and some peach, all mixed into one. Having these unique colors is a very good thing and out of the box thing to do, BUT just keep in mind that sometimes these new colors can cost you extra bucks. You may have to get your linen custom order or custom made, a lot of things for your decor will have to be either dyed or tinted, sometimes it is difficult to find accesories for your bridesmaids and the list can go on. If the new color is something that you really love, I would suggest 1. Let it be your accent color, so that way it is complimenting another color that is not difficult to work with, or 2. If it is your dominate color then try to make everything else around it stay in the neutral tones, far as linens and decor, and decide on what things that you would be willing to put the cost into getting customized in your unique colors. you can have a neutral table, with creams, and ivory and a centerpiece that reflect a neutral tone and maybe greenery, and let your menu card, and or napkins be in the unique color which will pop off of the neutral background, because custom napkins are cheaper than custom linens.

Americans have recognized Black History annually since 1926, first as "Negro History Week" and later as "Black History Month." What you might not know is that Black History had barely begun to be studied-or even documented-when the tradition originated. Although blacks have been in America at least as far back as colonial times, it was not until the 20th century that they gained a respectable presence in the history books

We owe the celebration of Black History Month, and more importantly, the study of black history, to Dr. Carter G. Woodson. Born to parents who were former slaves, he spent his childhood working in the Kentucky coal mines and enrolled in high school at age twenty. He graduated within two years and later went on to earn a Ph.D. from Harvard. The scholar was disturbed to find in his studies that history books largely ignored the black American population-and when blacks did figure into the picture, most representation of blacks in history books was only in reference to the low social position they held as slaves and their descendants.

Black History Month is a remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. It is celebrated annually in the United States (US),Canada and the United Kingdomin February in the month of February.

Woodson chose the second week of February because it marked the birthdays of two Americans who greatly influenced the lives and social condition of African Americans: former President Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglass.

Bustle for your Wedding Gown?

What is a Bustle ?? If your wedding dress have a long, chapel length train or is it just a small brush/sweep train? Regardless of how long it is, your train will add elegance as you walk down the aisle and give you the enchanting vision. But that enchanting look is not a good idea, for your reception, as you will have so many people, stepping, tripping, and even tugging on the train of your gown, and the first to usually do so is the groom! Adding a Bustle to your gown will make walking, mingling, sitting and dancing easier.

The Bustle is in use today primarily to lift the long, elegant trains of wedding gowns off the floor. The long train is lifted with buttons or ties to create a lovely bouffant style that is also very practical. Trust me you do not want to use the little lop that is under your dress that goes over your wrist, 1. Your dress is not a bracelet. 2. Your dress is heavy. 3.You are then only using one hand and arm the entire night. 4. The next day that arm and wrist will feel like it has been at the gym all night.
Although almost all brides utilize Bustles for their wedding gowns, you may be surprised to discover that the dresses do not come with bustles in place.They are added during alterations. This makes sense since all brides are not the same height and your bustle should lift the back of your gown to your hem length. So your bustle must be custom made.

Bustle Options
You have several choices in bustles: The Over Bustle and the Under Bustle (also known as the French or Victorian bustle) are the most common.

Over Bustle
The Over Bustle consists of several hooks lifting your train off the floor. The “hooks” are sewn in about 14 – 20” down the back skirt. Lace appliqués, rosettes or bows may be needed to cover the hooks. Covered buttons also work well, and may look nicer, especially if you have buttons down the back of your gown.The longer your train is, the more hooks or buttons you will need.

Under Bustle
This method works especially well for gowns without a waistline and gowns that are especially decorative in the back area, as it doesn’t cover up any lace or details in the gown right below the waist. The gown is lifted from the bottom area. The Under Bustle is also more secure than the Over Bustle. For the Under Bustle, ribbons are sewn under the gown securing the outer fabric to the lining. Use different colors of ribbon to make the task of tying easier.

The Groom's Responsibility

The Groom sometimes feel left out during the planning process, because he is not sure of what he should be doing to help out. A lot of couples today are paying and planning the wedding themselves, without help from the parents. Here are list of somethings that have been known by tradition for the groom to take care of, but this is not limited to anything else he would like to contribute to help out with.

1.Help compile guest list, which include proper name, address, and phone numbers of his guest.
2.Purchase bride's engagement and wedding rings.

3.Rent or purchase his wedding attire.

4.Choose all wedding attire and accessories for the male bridal party members.

5.Plan and pay for honeymoon.

6.Obtain all necessary travel documents for the both of you for honeymoon (i.e. passport, birth certificate)

7.Assist in any and all planning of ceremony and reception.

8.Purchase wedding gift for bride.
9.Pay for the bridal bouquet and all corsages and boutonnières for wedding party.

10.Scout out hotels for out-of-town guests.

11.Bring marriage license to ceremony site.

12.Make payments to officiate and musicians.

...or if this list seems to much, then hire a wedding planner (smile)

Gifts for the Groomsmen??

Whenever it gets close to the wedding date, and I ask the groom "what gifts do you have for your groomsmen" I always get that dear stuck in the headlight look. A lot of men never even knew that it was a traditon to get his wedding entourage a token gift of appreciation. Getting gifts for groomsmen to me in my opinion is an easy task, because the guys are not really fussy, and could even care less. You can get individual gifts, that you know your guys would like and use, more so then getting the traditional cuff links, beer mug, or tie. If one of the guys are in college, get him a gift card to the campus bookstore or his favorite fast food spot, if all of you like golf then pay for everyone tee time, if one of them are traveling very far from out of town, pay for his hotel room, or maybe treat them to the haircut that is needed for the wedding. There are so many unique and personal things that can be done for groomsmen gifts. These gifts are exchanged during the rehearsal dinner.

Best Man Duties

You have made the wise and important decision in the selection of your Bestman or Bestmen, so now what it happens, besides them standing at the alter looking equally swag as yourself. Here are list of something you should expect from him.....

1. Assist the groom in selecting tuxedos for the guys in the wedding party. The bride probably has something in mind, so check with her and what the wedding colors are so that you can coordinate the tuxedos to match.

2. Pick up the groom’s tuxedo and accessories before the wedding. Make sure the other groomsmen have their act together in picking up their own attire.

3. The best man is in charge of making sure all the guys get to where they are supposed to be (main events would be the rehearsal dinner and the wedding obviously).

4. Hang out with the groom as he gets ready for the wedding (on the wedding day). Carry smart items such as breath mints, a fully charged cell phone, aspirin, a comb, deodorant, and anything that might come in handy on a wedding day emergency.

5. Make sure that the groom and groomsmen get to the church or ceremony location on time. If a limo hasn’t been rented to take wedding party members to the wedding ceremony location, it is up to the best man to figure out how all the guys are supposed to get to their appointed destination. Make sure you have a full tank of gas in your car.

6. The best man usually holds onto the bride’s ring until the groom needs to place it on her finger.
7. The best man usually is a witness to the wedding and signs the formal wedding license.

8. The best man gives toasts to the bride and groom at the reception. Keep it short and sweet. Wish them the best of luck. Praise both the bride and groom as being lovely people and meant for each other. Do not tell any sordid stories that might embarrass the bride or groom. Sure, people would laugh but don’t risk it. The bride will never forgive you!

9. If the bride and groom are leaving directly after the reception to start their honeymoon, the best man sees them off. Assist the groom in getting luggage into the car and doublechecking that the groom has his wallet, credit cards, cell phone, passport (if applicable) and tickets.

10. After the wedding, the best man usually makes sure to return any rented tuxedos and accessories.

11. The best man typically organizes the bachelor party. Do not have this the night before the wedding. The groom might be hung over, late to the wedding and take terrible pictures! Be sensible and make sure to do the bachelor party sometime during the last month before the wedding. The farther away from the wedding day, the better!

Tuxedo or Suit What's the Difference?

Tuxedo the jackets have a satin lapel and the pants have a satin stripe down the outside legs. Tuxedo shirts often have a pleated front, as well as being compatible with studs and cuff links, which now are being worn with just a plain dress shirt.. Patent leather shoes are worn with tuxedos. Cummerbund. is the long piece of satin fabric that wraps around the stomach area, and are worn with tuxedos, and especially at black tie affairs, and accompany with a bow tie. Traditionally, a tuxedo has a curved "shawl" lapel or a pointed "peak" lapel, but today, the majority of tuxedos have "notch" lapels like those of a common suit. Tuxedos also traditionally have only one button, compared to two or three on suits; but you rarely see this difference anymore

Suits have a self lapel (same fabric as the body of the coat), no satin stripe down the pants, with a plain front dress shirt and ordinary leather shoes are worn.

I would like to say thank you to all of the young ladies, and couples that took the time out to stop by my exhibit on yesterday (Jan. 10, 2010) and took the time out to chit-chat with me, and browse thru my displays. Despite the cold weather, there were so many warm hearted and sincere new people that I was able to meet. There were a few moments, that I was actually in awe of how many people knew who I was by either viewing my website several times, attending a wedding that I planned in the past, or just by word of mouth, this was very exciting news and proves that your reputation can exceed you, so I make sure I will stay on point. I remain humble and grateful, to everyone for their encouraging words. Color of Roses

Red is the most commonly given color of roses. Red signifies love and passion. True red is the rose for lovers. Fiery red roses signify passion, while cardinal red symbolizes desire. Fully bloomed red roses best convey the message “I still love you,” while red rose buds are a way to express love for the first time.

Yellow roses signify friendship, familiar love, and domestic happiness. Yellow roses are also sometimes given as an expression of sympathy. A bouquet of yellow roses would be appropriate to give to a graduate upon graduation day or as a congratulatory gesture. Yellow roses are perfect for someone with a cheerful spirit.

Pink roses are symbolic of elegance, gentility, and poetic romance, yet they are not given the intense significance of red rose love. Pink roses are understood to be light-hearted and can signify admiration. Light pink signifies sympathy and friendship, while dark pink is symbolic of thankfulness and deep appreciation.

White roses sometimes adorn a bride-to-be on her wedding day. They symbolize unity, sincerity, loyalty, purity, and love stronger than death. White roses are sometimes mixed with red roses to emphasize love.

Orange roses symbolize an expression of pride or amazement, while peach roses symbolize appreciation and desire. A bouquet of orange roses would be appropriate for a graduate or to commemorate a promotion, while peach could express sincere appreciation for someone’s accomplishments.

Purple roses represent majestic glory and can symbolize eternal love, while lavender or lilac roses signify love at first sight or the beginning of true feelings. Purple roses are appropriate for wedding anniversaries beyond 25 years and as memorial flowers for a lost spouse. Deep purple roses should be reserved for intimate situations.

Black roses are symbolic of death. Many people view black roses as an omen, but they can signify change or rejuvenation on the horizon, as some rose buds appear black but then bloom into crimson red. The meaning of black roses may not be understood or well received as a gift, so you should avoid this color if you are at all unsure of the recipient’s beliefs.

These are just traditional defenitions to signify the color of roses, do not take it to the extreme that you change your wedding or event colors due to a defenition (smile) because you can give your own meaning to any flower!

Dr. Crystal Johnson and Mr. Frederick Marion were married on December 31, 2009. A very loving and sincere couple, that compliment each other so well, love was in the air the entire day! Crystal and Frederick are really a couple that when they are given lemons in the begining of a day, they will turn it into not just lemonade but a lemonade stand and make the lemons work for them! They really did it up right, they took 2009 out as hubby and wifey with a very regal (1st) first reception earlier that day, then later that evening they brought 2010 in with a (2nd) reception that allowed everyone to party, celebrate, relax, and enjoy the "Love Holiday" theme of bringing in the New Year together. Their guest really received the royal treatment. Photos will be posted on the website gallery soon.

Please No Pictures!!

You may have been in a Bridal Boutique and seen a sign stating no cameras. I know this can leave you puzzled as you stand there asking yourself why not? It makes common sense to be able to try own wedding gowns, and take pictures to either show someone who was not bale to attend and you value their opinion, to be able to do a comparison of yourself in other dresses but having pictures side by side, having it to show your florist, hairdresser, or make-up artist. all of these reasons and more are valid and sincere reasons. The reason for no cameras is to avoid copyright issues. You may tryon this fabolus designer gown that cost, $5,000 and can take a picture of that same gown to a talented and gifted seamstress, who can re-create the gown for almost 75% less. Where is the first place a bride usually see the gown of her dreams?...... "In a magazine" which is a picture (Duh) and the magazine pictures have more of a close-up, detailed, different angle, perfect lighting of the gown, than you ever would have taken with your Kodak. If you wanted to have the dress recreated, and nI am not promoting this.

Wedding Planner or Wedding Director? (what's the difference)

There is a big difference between a Wedding Director and a Wedding Planner. A Wedding Director is usually the church lady (smile), a close friend or a family member who orchestrates your wedding rehearsal and ceremony only. Some churches will allow you to use only their Director for your ceremony. The Director key job is to make sure that everyone knows when and how to walk down the aisle, nothing more and nothing less. It is not a very hard task and this is why a lot of people, or so quick to raise their hands and say that they are a Wedding Planner, when in reality they are not! A Wedding Planner does the job of a Director and a lot more. A Wedding Planner is there at the very begining of the entire process. A Planner key jobs are being creative, providing you with vendors, decorating ideas and suggestions, knowledge of the wedding lingo and trends, relieve you of stress, spearheading meetings and events, keeping you on budget, problem solving, being dependable, and just putting your dreams into a reality.

A Wedding Director will usually cost you nothing, because it's a friend or family member, a Wedding Planner will cost you a fee, but you know what they say "you pay for what you get" so if you pay nothing you just might get nothing! Hopefully this information should help guide you in the right direction.

Top of Wedding Cake!

The questions is do you serve it to your guest, or keep it for your first anniversary? Preserving your top layer for your first anniversary is a deep rooted tradition, and is considered as good luck, this tradition will continue until the end of time. Some couples now are opting for serving their top layer of the wedding cake to their guest, or at the next day farewell brunc, and just order a fresh relica from the same cake decorater for their first anniverary. If you do decide to keep the top layer, here is how you preserve it to make sure that it stays fresh, and just as tasty as the day it was baked...

Ask a responsible person to take the top layer home, who will be able to complete these task immediately. First the layer should be placed into the freezer immediately to harden the icing for one to two hours, then the cake should be frozen. The cake should then be loosely wrapped in plastic several times and then wrapped in aluminum foil, if you like you can place it into a cake box, but then wrap even the box in plastic, or just wrap the outside of the aluminum foil again in plastic. This protection will preserve the taste and texture of the cake. **never keep the cake in a frost-free freezer, because the constant defrosting will draw the moisture out of the cake. A deep freezer is the best. If you are moving within the year, leave the cake with a family member or friends freezer after the wedding to avoid moving the cake before your anniversary.

When you are prepared to eat your cake on your anniversary, remove the cake from the freezer and thaw in the refrigerator for 48 hours, then place at room temperature for 2 to 3 hours. Your cake will be as beautiful (and tasty) as the day of your wedding!

Christmas Humor

Don't know if any of you got a chance to see the man who decorated his house for Christmas along with a sense of humor, in which cause so much of an uproar that the police made him remove it. In the picture he had a "dummy" hanging from the second story of his house, as if he fell off the ladder with Christmas lights hanging, and the ladder lying in the bushes, in which people thought someone was in need of help, here is the man statement....

"Good news is that I truly out did myself this year with my Christmas decorations. The bad news is that I had to take him down after 2 days. I had more people come screaming up to my house than ever. But two things made me take it down. First, the cops advised me that it would cause traffic accidents as people almost wrecked when they drove by.

Second, a 55 year old lady grabbed the 75 pound ladder almost killed herself putting it against my house and didn't realize it was fake until she climbed to the top (she was not happy). By the way, she was one of many people who attempted to do that. My yard couldn't take it either. I have more than a few tire tracks where people literally drove up my yard."

A Bridal Shower is a party where you invite female friends, grandma and other family (that are invited to the wedding) to an afternoon party, sometimes it has a unique theme, like a monogram shower in which guest bring items with the couple's monogram, a tea party that all the ladies show off their best hats and white gloves, "what's for dinner" theme in which guest bring their favorite recipes for a meal and the ingredients in a gift basket, and the list goes on. Normally the bridesmaids and possibly the mother of the bride and or the mother of the groom pays for the shower. This event is rated PG

A Bachelorette Party is where you invite female friends and family out to a wild evening of fun , drinking, games, bar hopping, naughty gag gifts and oh yes strippers!! Normally you don't invite your Grandma or Mom, although I've seen both of them attend. Everyone usually pays for themselves and chip in for the stripper at a bachelortette party, although the bride really shouldn't have to buy her own drinks or anything! This event is rated XXX

Color Combo for December

My color combo pick for this month is yellow, and purple. Both colors seperate has a diffrent meaning in my eyes. Of course yellow express, happy, joyful, carefree, fun and free spirit. The purple execute the boldnees of royal elegance, and more so an auora of mystery. When these two combined together they fuse into a firm sense of calmness, as a combo the purple stands firm and bold, and which it then brings peaceful calmness to the yellow.

A Trunk Show is a a special event at which a wedding dress designer (or representative from the company) visits a bridal boutique on a set day with his or her entire line of new dresses. Brides schedule appointments to try on the dresses and meet with the designer.

Since most bridal salons often only carry a few dresses from a select group of designers, trunk shows allow customers the opportunity to see and try on dresses that they wouldn't ordinarily see at that store. If you find a dress you like during a designer trunk show.

The bride benefits because she has the opportunity to talk to the actual designer, to discuss the gowns and any changes she may want to make to the one she's considering for herself. Designers benefit because they get to watch brides try on their gowns and listen to their comments. It's a great opportunity for them to learn directly from the consumer what they're doing right -- and wrong!

Call local bridal boutiques and department store bridal salons to see when and if there are trunk shows scheduled, and with which designers. Trunk shows are planned well in advance, so stores should be able to give you a list of dates. The shows last from one to three days, and appointments book up quickly. Call early!

Understand that a trunk show is not technically a sale. The dresses are not marked as discounted. But, most trunk shows do offer a discount for placing your order on the spot, sometimes up to 20%, so don't be shy about asking. Even if the salon doesn't offer a discount, the designer may throw in a few extras (buttons down the back, additional length on the sleeves or the train) without charging you more. This relatively small savings could make a big difference if you're working with a tight budget.

The wedding party consist of many people, with many titles, and many roles. The average wedding party is usually made up of Maid/Matron of Honor, Bridesmaids, Flower Girl(s), Best Man/Men, Groomsmen, and Ring Bearer. That is your normal line-up. Now sometimes you may include, Junior Bridesmaid and Junior Groomsmen, Bible Bearer, Mini Bride and Mini Groom. I could be here all day listing the titles of different wedding party roles. The question that I get asked often is "who should I have in my wedding party?" my answer to that is always, "whoever you would like to have stand in the presence of your exchange of vows that bring nothing but positive energy. Everyone should know by now, that I am truly outside of the box, and there are no rules and regulations, when it comes to things of this nature here is examples to what I mean....Do the amount of the ladies, have to equal to the amount of the men NO....the worst thing is to ask someone to be in your wedding party only because you need to even out a number....Do I have to even have a wedding party at all NO... wheter you have two people standing at the alter with you, or twenty people standing at the alter, it will not make or break the significance of your wedding vows.....Do I have to include all titles in my wedding party, like do I have to find a flower girl, a junior bridesmaid and etc. NO....when it comes to selecting a bridal party, in which is suppose to be a joyus occasion, not a nail bitter because you do not want to offend or hurt anyone's feelings. At the end of the day, if their true reason is to be able to witness the union between two people in love, they would just even be honored to be invited. (HINT) Be very cautious and do not feel pressured, when persons just put themselves in your wedding party! HHHMMM

Groom's Cake

I wanted to elaborate on "The Groom's Cake" due to the fact that over the past couple of months I have been ask time and again exactly what is it. A groom’s cake started out as a down South. Some people use to see it as an unnecessary expense, so people start shying away from having a groom's cake and leaving this just for the elite southerners to partake in. Well now this down South tradition has expanded, to the North, East, and West. It is considered as a gift from the bride to the groom and 95% of the time is a big surprise to him. Now traditionally it was usually dark, made of all chocolate, and sometimes soak in liquor to symbolize, that it was masculine, which was totally opposite of the pure white flower adorn wedding cake. Not anymore, now the groom's cake is made to represent his favorite football team, hobby, job, candy, cigars, just about anything and usually comical.

You can showcase it at the wedding or dessert at the rehearsal dinner or later cut and put into boxes for guests to take home. Now there is suppose to be an old folktale that years ago single women are supposed to sleep with a slice under their pillow the same night they receive it -- and if they do, they'll dream of their future husband, and in my opinion you will be dreaming about that mess up under your pillow.

Did You Know? (Bread)

Everyday when I learn something new I want to pass it along to others. I grew up testing a loaf of bread by pressing down on top of it and if it felt soft and was slow at springing back up, then this was a fresh loaf, but if I press on the top of it and the bread was firm and did not move, then this was considered as stale. I found out that all along, my mom, grandma, and all of us have been wasting our time, because bread has a code to let you know when it was baked, and the code is the colorful twist ties on the bread. Bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week, which are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. And each day has a different color twist tie. They are...........................

Monday - Blue

Tuesday - Green

Thursday - Red

Friday - White

Saturday - Yellow

I went to the grocery store and the bread wrappers do have different colored twist ties, and even the ones with the plastic clips have different colors.

So today being Tuesday, I want a green twist tie (fresh delivered this morning) - not red which is Thursday (almost a week old)

The colors go alphabetically Blue - Green - Red - White -Yellow, which match towards the day of the week, Monday thru Saturday. Very easy to remember. Post a note in your wallet so you will not forget.

Cell Chargers / Car

Of course if you have a Soc. Sec. # more than likely you have a cellphone. One bit of advice that I want to pass on to you, is that please invest in a cellphone charger for your car. The week of your wedding you will be on your cellphone pertaining to the wedding , more than you would have in one month. Wheter it is calls from friends and familes who have last minute, questions, concerns, or congrats. You will also be very mobile for some reason that week, going from point A to B and back to Z. The one good charge that you put on your phone that morning, that usually lasts you about 2 days, you will notice will last you barely until mid-afternoon. I have seen it so many times, that clients want to contact me, their mom, a friend, or vendor, then they cell phone dies, and they are hours from being back home, but it never register in their mind to stop at a Wal-Mart, Target, or even Gas station to buy a car phone charger, so that way they want feel so detached from the rest of society for those few hours. It is a good investment, because, you will still use it after the wedding. *Hint* If you have have a GPS system, especially by Garmin, and a Blackberry, check the charging section of the cord, because they will charge the GPS and your Blackberry. Test it out first and see if it works for you.

There are so many new high tech ways of keeping in touch, with family and friends....you got Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and the list goes on. Another form of communicating that I really like is thru SKYPE. You have probably have seen SKYPE used on various shows like Oprah, Today, 20/20, MTV, and a lot of reality televison shows. SKYPE is more so a visual form of communication. It is so easy, all you need is a webcam, and go to the website http://www.skype.com/ and register, and that's it! The best part is that it is FREE! I think it is very reliable way of communicating with family, friends, co-workers, and even vendors, especially if you are not able to make a meeting or a consult, and you would like to have more so of that face to face conversation, when it comes to expressing your concerns or ideas. Dinner Napkins

A very easy and affordable way to add decor and elegance to a table, is with dinner napkins. Dinner napkins can be folded and shaped in so many different styles and designs. When getting away from the traditonal white and ivory and using colorful napkins to match your decor, this really pops out on a table setting. There isn't really one napkin fold that out ranks the other, because each fold need to reflect your style and theme. My favorites are the Opera Fan in which from an aerial point of view can be seen on each table as hint of decor and the French Pleat which is good to slide your menu cards in, or even a single rose.

To get married in the state of South Carolina, you need to obtain a marriage license. The following requirements apply to both residents and non-residents:

The bride and groom must appear together at the office of a South Carolina county probate judge and file a written application. This application asks for the full name, social security number, age, and place of residence of the bride and the groom. It is a sworn statement that must be signed by the bride and the groom and then notarized in the office of the probate judge. Some probate judges require both the bride and groom to show their social security cards. There is a waiting period after the application is filed before the license can be picked up and the marriage can take place. This waiting period varies from county to county, so please contact the appropriate county probate judge at least a week before you plan to get married.

Jumping the Broom

Jumping the broom is one of the most popular older traditions, that is used here in America very often, at wedding cermonies. A lot of us have seen it at weddings, but really did not know the meaning or history behind it. During the years of slavery, marriages between slaves were not recognized as legal or binding. The broom jumping ritual was a symbolic act within slave communities for marriage. One misconception is that this ritual was and only done by slaves, but a very small percentage of poor whites in the South and in New England, as well as Gypsies also used this marriage ritual. Today the jumping of the broom is done in respect and in honor of our ancestors who were slaves. The jumping of the broom is a leap of faith into marriage. In some parts of Africa, ceremonial brooms are used to sweep away evil.

The broom jumping typically takes place after the rest of the wedding ceremony, before the bride and groom walk down the aisle.

There is always a toss up between having invitations done professionally or going the DIY route. If you plan on making your own invitations, programs, Save-the-Dates, and place cards, then you need to ask yourself a few questions...1.Do you have enough time to complete the project by yourself ( do not bet on others who said they would help) 2. Do you have the knowledge, resources and experience to make sure it is not a DIY disaster. 3. Can you cover all of the expenses that may occur for extra ink, correct envelopes, extra cardstock which is for major errors, and cutting fees (scissors will not do the trick) 4. Do you know the proper etiquette, layout, and appropriate fonts. Organization and preparations are the key role in DIY projects.

Now this is not to scare you but to prepare you. I have seen some successful DIY projects, so yes it can be done, but at least you know beforehand if this is something that you want to challenge yourself with.

Wedding Cake or Cup Cakes

When it comes to this Dessert debate, a lot of brides, mothers, and vendors have there own stern opinion on this. Besides the traditional and expected 3 tier, 4 tier wedding cake, that we all look forward to after dinner, in the past decade there has been a surge in the trend of having a cupcake wedding cake, which is usually a display that holds a 6 or 8 inch top layer for the couple to cut, and then a variety of cupcakes, so that guest can grab it and go. I went to a seminar that Sylvia Weinstock celebrity cake decorater was giving a lecture, and she does not even make cupcakes for weddings she strongly feels that they are for birthday parties only. A lot of couples go this route because they feel that it is cheaper than a wedding cake, or they do not want the hassle of cutting up a large wedding cake. I feel there are so many alternatives that you can do, with your same cupcake image but just jazz it up a little, to make it look a litlle more elegant. For example, have your 6 to 8 inch top tier wedding cake, but have a display of mini cakes that looks like the duplicate of your top tier, or petit fours. Recently my couple Rebecca and Will had a neat concept but they had mini cakes, and cheese cakes that were designed like tuxedos, and small presents, and the cake display stand was made by Rebecca and her Dad, and it turned out too be so cute, and elegant. Mouth Wash

There are so many different new products out on the market, and of course the commercials will pump it up and make it the best thing since slice bread. Well I have decided to try some of my new and favorites, and will give you the real scoop, and rate it, and let you know the pros and cons! The first thing I have noticed is this mouthwash that is called Smart Mouth. This product is suppose too keep your breath fresh for at least 12 hours. I notice that when you get nervous or excited a lot of times that can work on your nerves and cause a dry mouth. This product I feel is wonderful for brides, grooms, and anyone in the wedding party. During weddings and parties you are greeting and hugging more people in one evening then you can count. The last thing you need is for your breath NOT be as fresh as it was hours ago when you initially brushed. The mouth wash comes in two separate bottles, the formulas can not be mixed until it is time to use it, because this is what activates the mouthwash. I tried it, and I have to say it really does work, I put it to the test and drank, some cappucino, and ate some shrimp, and hours later there was no indication of what I ate. I used it before I went to bed and woke up the next morning, and there was a big difference from the normal morning breath, now it was not Minty smelling, but I actually really notice the difference. It clearlly states if your are eating a lot of garlic and onions that you will need to rinse again. Out of a rating of 1 stars to 5 stars I will give it 5 Stars!! The Cons are it is not inexpensive for the amount in the bottles, but Wal-Mart has the cheapest price for $10.98 and there is a coupon on the website, it does not have to be your everyday mouthwash, but for days that you know you are really going to need it. Congratulations to Rebecca and Will on their marriage that took place October 17, 2009. The entire event took place at The Beau Rivage Golf Course/Resort in Willmington, NC. The weather was truly in their favor, due to the ceremony being outside on the golf course, and the reception was held in the clubhouse. The ceremony and reception was very intimate, and everything ran smooth. Wish you two the best!

Trash the Dress

What is exactly "Trash the Dress" it is defined just how you see it. A lot of today's brides put days, months even years into finding that perfect dress, and paying a nice price tag to match. Then after the wedding they put this beautiful gown back on, and just let their alter ego bride come out, wheter it's taking a shot in the middle of the ocean, in a local junkyard, climbing a tree, or riding a horse on the beach. So it is still elegance but with an artistic edge. Me personally I love it! You have your wedding album with all these picture perfect shots of you in your gown, and then at the end of the album, there you are in a place that you would never imagine being in your weddin gown, and just carefree. Types of Wedding Veils

You have the wedding dress of your deams now you need to have the right veil to seal the deal. A lot of times brides go into bridal shops and the sales person start speaking their own lingo far as dresses and veils and everything goes right over your head...so I want to give you examples of a few different types of veils out there, so you will have a general idea of what you like and what would compliment your wedding dress.

Blusher Veil

This is the short veil worn over the bride’s face. It usually falls just below the collarbone and above the bust and is worn alone or with other veils, in which is when a bride then have a double or two tier veil. The blusher veil was designed to demonstrate a bride’s innocence and modesty, so it continues to be a popular choice. Because it hides the face, traditionally it was that the groom would lift the blusher veil to kiss the bride at the end of the ceremony. However, today many fathers choose to lift the blusher veil to kiss their daughters prior to “giving them away” to be married at the altar, and leaving it lifited.

Fly-Away Veil

The fly-away veil is multi-layered, and it just brushes the shoulders. It is a less formal bridal veil that is mainly worn with less formal gowns, or when couples have intimate ceremonies, and she is wearing just a casual white dress and not a gown, or when you are having a civil court house wedding, or at "The little Chapel in Vegas" but it can switch things up and be worn with a very formal wedding gown, but the gown has so much wonderful detailing on the back, or you may have a very low dramatic, sexy cutout in the back of your dress, and you did not want a veil to cover this detail , so this would be the veil for you.

Birdcage Veil

Let's see, the first thing pop into my head is Retro, but during the era, when being "cool" was cool. I can see the men in the Zoot Suits, and ladies wearing their birdcage veils with red lipstick, and a mahogny cigarette holder to accomodate the menthol, I think of Audrey Hepburn, and Lena Horne. This is a veil that will always be a classic and can actually dictate the theme of your entire wedding, it can be paired with a tea length gown, or even a cascading train gown, formal or informal. the only thing that I have notice is that when wearing a bird cage veil, you got to have the right atttitude to "work it" The birdcage veil extends to just over the chin. It usually is made a wide-open weave of netting, almost like fish netting, some have crystals or pearls on the netting, and can be worn adorned to a hat, comb, feathers, or flowers.

Elbow-Length Veil

Just as it sounds, this veil extends down to the elbow. It can be single or multi-layered, and with each layer being a different length. It is known as one of the most popular lengths, and usually when a bride is trying to decide between veils, this is usually the one that wins the debate, because there are no wrong or rights when it comes to this length.

Chapel or Cathedral Length Veil

Drama Drama and more Drama is the look that the Chapel length veil presents, I highly suggest that your gown has a long train also to really execute the drama. It seems like the bride is walking down the aisle you can see burst of romance and elegance within each step. This veil extends anywhere from 6 inches or 6 feet beyond the end of the gown ( Can we say Princess Diana) Since this veil make it difficult to move around it is best removed before the reception.

I don't know if this is a little to old school, but you may remember at your home or visiting family and they have the Ebony, Jet, and Essence magazines, spread out across the coffee table like a beautiful fan, or going to the beauty shop and reading them while your sit under the hair dryer, or standing in line in the grocery store. Now I know all the males love the JET magazine for the "Beauty of the Week" I have alaways love the wedding section, because it would always fascinate me on who these couples were and why they were so special to be in JET magazine, and I always thought they had some type of celebrity connection. For any of you have thought they same thing or imagine your wedding being in this section, your dream can come true, and this is what you have to do......

1. Gather all of the information needed to submit a wedding to JET Magazine, type up the information on one, easy-to-read piece of paper. You will need to send: A clear, full-color photo of the bride and groom that shows their faces entirely; the full names, address and phone number of the bride and groom; the location of the honeymoon; the education and occupation details for the bride and groom; the location of the wedding, including the city and state in which couple married; any details on where the couple plans to reside permanently

My color combo pick for this month is Turquoise and Red. When I think of this combo I vision, culture, Indian artifacts, and young meets old. Red is a classic color until the end of time, but there are only so many colors on the spectrum that people are brave enough to pair with red. When you add a joyful but calm color like Turquoise to the color Red it just embrace the classical romance of the color red, but the turquoise still whispers fun.

Make-Up

Don't put make-up on in the car on the way to the church, and drive over a speed bump and now you look like a one eye racoon.

Don't let anyone put on your make-up and there is no mirror around, and they tell you that you can look at it later.

Photojournalist (Candid)tells the unique story of your wedding, from the nervous anticipation before the start of the ceremony to the reception's electric slide dance. Photojournalism captures moments rather than poses, documenting the emotions and energy around the entire occasion — the father of the bride's tearing up, the groom's nervousness, the air of excitement as the bride appears for the first time. The photographer doesn't "direct you to pose" so the results are candid, spontaneous, and true. Capture the story of your day as it naturally unfolds.The downsides are few. You will end up with a wide variety of shots and captured moments to choose from for your wedding album. Some moments you might not even have witnessed, and they will serve as a record of how great a time your guests had at your wedding.

Traditional photography (sometimes known as "formal" photography or "portraiture") refers to posed pictures, usually of the wedding party and the couples' families. These are the shots of the bridesmaids with their bouquets, the groom with his parents, the happy bride and groom gazing into each others' eyes, etc. These are the style that your parents, grandparents, are from the 90's on back

Artistic photography is a sort of catch-all category that includes everything from soft-focus lenses and filters to hand-colored images. fishbowl lens shots and unusual camera angles. Bridesmaids Reception Shoes

You want your girls to look so nice as the come down the aisle in the dress, you pick, the shoes you picked. I know as well as anyone after the ceremony along with yourself they can not wait to get out of those dreadful heels to either relax, dance or let their feet conform back to the orignial shape, but the thing I have notice is that your girls along with yourself are in these beautiful gowns, but then you look down and one has on her grandmother's slide in bedroom shoes, another has on her hospital crocs, another has on a pair of bedazzle flip flops, another has on her custom Air Force Ones, another has been barefoot so long that you can not tell if she has on shoes or not, but they all still want to jump into your reception photos while partying. I suggest fun flip flops in your wedding color, or black or white which is universal, or tell them they can wear casual dressy flats, but still in the color scheme ...OR better yet let that be a gift from you to them to add to their goodie bags, because let's see Flip Flops about $2.00 $Priceless

Fake Tans (Please No)

If you feel that you must have your skin with a nice glow, or bronze look for your wedding, or as the say as if your skin has been kissed by the sun, then please have it done by a professional. No your cousion and your bestfriend does not equal professional, because they can read the directions out loud. Now on the other hand if your favorite color is orange, and you do not mind people saying "There's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown " the entire evening, then you know what I welcome you to help yourself to a plate of disaster They say a picture is worth a thousand words, tell me what these pictures have to say.......

Plan B

Always have a Plan B. If you are planning on having an outside wedding, reception, party or any event always have a Plan B, even if it is taking place in the middle of the Sahara Desert, that would be the day in centuries it decides to rain. From my experience whenever we have a Plan B, then this is when Plan A runs smooth and everything turns out just fine. For an example here are pictures from a very nice outside reception that is too take place

everything looks so nice, the clouds are clear and the sun is shining, the only thing that you can not see on this picture is that the bride refused to have a Plan B so within a matter of minutes, Mother Nature took over

and well I don't have to even say anymore.......

Band or DJ

When it comes to Entertainment at Weddings and other celebrated events, some people straddle the fence between DJ and Band. It really depends on the atmosphere,theme,and your personality. If you are having a very small casual backyard, intimate wedding with maybe twenty-five guest, it would defeat the purpose of having a full twelve piece band. That will cost you four times more than your wedding. A DJ can really play a variety of songs,take requests in a matter of seconds,can blend and mix all at the same time, and keep the crowd moving without an intermission break. A band is more so of a visual entertainment, especally if you have a band that has a lot of spunk, and interacts with the crowd, and make you feel like the artist of the song is right there performing the song themselves. If you were to do both I suggest the band to play like jazz tunes for the Cocktail Hour, and slow melodies for the dinner, then your DJ can pick up the remainder of the night after dinner, to keep everyone on the floor, and having a good time all night long. So again when making the choice it really depends on your style, and what you would enjoy the most.
